Rector ended up sitting out the rest of the night classes and was shaken awake by Xerxes who was sitting up in the bed next to him.
"Rector? How long have you been here? Man you need to go back to the dorms and get some rest for tomorrow. I appreciate the assist though."
Rector looked over at Xerxes groggily at first until he realized Xerxes was awake and speaking. After quickly checking him over visually on his own Rector sat back down with a sigh.
"I will now that I see you're doing better. I saw Ire in here earlier and figured I should provide extra security for you incase she was going to try and pull anything."
He stood from his chair as he spoke.
"Make certain that you get plenty of rest tonight. I'll be back tomorrow morning and I'll fetch us some trays from the cafeteria for breakfast. We can sit and eat together."
"That sounds okay to me," Xerxes replied. "Perhaps you could tell me more about your time in Demon World?"
Rector smirked as he took a few steps towards the door.
"Of course. Good night."
With that Rector stepped out of the Nurse's office and looked to his right to see Terra asleep against the wall. She must have fallen asleep waiting on him to return to get an update on Xerxes' condition.
Carefully picking her and her belongings up, Rector carried her back to the dorms and followed her scent to determine which room was hers. He felt uncomfortable initially because he had to look through her things to find her key to her room. He unlocked the door and carried her in to her bed. He gently set her things down on the way in and took her shoes off before tucking her in to the bed for the night. He left the key on her nightstand next to the bed and quickly and quietly made his way out of her room and back to his. Bathing quickly he got into bed and fell asleep not many moments after his head touched his pillow.
The next morning Rector went about his normal morning routine and got dressed. He went to head towards the cafeteria but was greeted at his door by Terra.
"Good morning Terra. Did you sleep well?"
"I would've slept better if I didn't wake up moments after I'm guessing you left wondering how the hell I got back to my room and worrying about Xerxes' condition since I didn't get an update."
"You seem a little cranky Terra but you need to calm down. I carried you back obviously. I couldn't leave you there. Also Xerxes was awake as of when I left last night. He's the one who convinced me to return to the dorms after being there all afternoon in the Infirmary. I'm on my way to the cafeteria now to pick us up some food to eat together if you would like to come?"
Terra's scowl almost instantly changed from a scowl to a smile.
"Just give me a few minutes to freshen up and change out of my pajamas."
"You got it."
He leaned up against the wall next to his door as other students walked past periodically and would glance at him. Finally after what seemed like an eternity Terra returned all smiles and ready for the day. THe two of them set off together for the cafeteria. Rector picked up three trays of food asking Terra what she wanted in the process and carried all three to the Infirmary.
"Xerxes? Awake buddy? Sorry it took so long. I have a guest with me that took a while to get ready to visit you. On the up side though I got the food and its still warm. Enjoy!"
With that Rector sat down in the chair next to Xerxes' bed and handed him his tray, Terra hers and then opened his own and they all dug in simultaneously enjoying every bite.
After they all had finished eating Rector wiped his mouth clean and turned to Xerxes.
"So, did the nurse say yet when you'll be cleared to return to class?"
"It's a good thing I'm so high class because I heal fast and have higher durability. I should be back to classes tomorrow night guys so you can stop worrying about me so much. Seriously. Go enjoy your day. No need to sit here all day with nothing to do but talking to me in dullsville."
Rector shook his head and smiled over at Terra, knowing that she would agree.
"We will be enjoying our day together with you man. Do not fret. I have to go and return the trays and then perhaps we can spend the day teaching me about some board games to pass the time until night classes begin?"
Xerxes smirked up at him.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Xerxes replied before Rector left the room with the trays.
"Terra I have a collection on the shelves in my room. Take my key and fetch them would you? I doubt the nurse would let me go that far at this moment. Hopefully you can make it back before Rector returns from the cafeteria."
Terra nodded and took the key from his hand and ran off. She was back within ten minutes and ran in only a minute before Rector returned.
"I see we have a full afternoon ahead of us judging by the pile on your bed. Very well then. Let's get down to it. Let's start with an easy one and work our way up to something complicated like Monopoly or Life."
The other two nodded as they pulled out a trivial pursuit game. Rector and Xerxes quickly discovered that Terra was a trivia know-it-all and she won the first two play throughs of the game. Out of shame they decided to give up and move on to the next game Life. Rector seemed to fare better at this game rolling luckily and making his way through the board rather quickly, opting to retire into the location that let him keep more money for his retirement.
"If only it were that easy. A few dice tosses and moving a pawn here and there. Life would be so much simpler. Let the fates decide with a dice roll. Lady luck, destiny, whatever you want to call it. As it is now after we complete our courses here we have to figure out a career that we'll want to go for even more school for and then we are stuck in that profession for the rest of our lives if we can even find an opportunity in our field. Things are so much simpler in Demon World. You want something you have to be willing to kill to take it. Winner decided by a death match."
Terra and Xerxes stared at him as he rambled on complaining about decision making.
"Can you imagine how many annoying decisions and issues the Demon King has to go through and deal with on a daily basis? He's in charge of all of Demon World and I hear that he's so powerful that he can't even step foot in the human world because his very energy would shatter the mortal realm. Is it true?" Xerxes questioned.
"Probably. I don't honestly know since no one really bothers to test themselves or contend with the king anymore. He kind of made a name for himself centuries ago after killing his father to attain the throne. He trained for years supposedly under his father's general just to become powerful enough and then after he killed all of them and went after his father, he had to appoint all new generals. Upon that story spreading throughout Demon World most challengers were scared off. One or two prominent names made attempts early on in the king's rule but after they disappeared no one else was gutsy enough to follow in their footsteps."
Rector looked between the two of them and they stared in awe of his story like his was a grandfather telling stories to his grandchildren. It really made him feel old for a moment.
"That's just what I heard while I was there anyway."
"Rector? How long have you been here? Man you need to go back to the dorms and get some rest for tomorrow. I appreciate the assist though."
