The tension could be cut with a knife it was so thick. The audience gaped in awe at the two fighters in the right that were currently in a stand off. Both waiting for the other to show a moment of weakness. Their fight had been going on for half an hour now under the beaming sun. Not to mention that both had fought their way up the rankings today in previous matches to make it to this final. Both had displayed speed and strength beyond human comprehension not to mention the light show from their ki blasts going back and forth. On top of it all they fought in midair for a while to minimize the damage to the arena. All Koto's ploy to avoid collateral damage and loss of life on behalf of the alien he was currently fighting. Koto had been training a whole year for this. He normally trained every day but his mom said that they desperately needed the money so she would let him compete this year now that he was old enough.
Koto owed everything to his mother. She was a human that adopted him after discovering him as a baby. She raised him and home-schooled him to the best of her ability but it was time for him to discover the world as a teen and for the world to discover him. He didn't want any notoriety but he was definitely excited about discovering new ways to train and meeting new people.
He had made his way up the ranks relatively easy until this fight. And this fight seemed to be the goal of his opponent all along. His opponent and he were pretty much even so far so both were banged up. But now his non-human opponent made a bold statement about a transformation.
"You mean you've been holding out on me Michi? I'm disappointed," Koto spoke aloud to his opponent.
"Of course I wouldn't go all out from the beginning. Your power level didn't warrant any transformation until now. Just so you know in this next form I will mop the floor with you and put an end to this futile endeavor once and for all."
"Try it," was all Koto stated before he stood back to let his opponent transform.
Originally Michi looked like he was only barely 5 foot even with a sleek body with a good four foot long tail. In this new form however Koto could sense the increase in Michi's fighting ability not to mention he now stood well over 7 foot tall and had grown long horns out of his head. As soon as he finished transforming he charged Koto and sent the saiyan boy flying only to catch himself just above the ground so that he wouldn't receive a loss due to a ring out. Not letting him rest, Michi charged and attempted to pummel Koto into the ground. Koto knew what his opponent would attempt so he dodged out of the way and recovered.
"Not bad Michi. Guess I'll have to get serious now," Koto commented before powering up, his aura ignited white as he prepared himself for the fight.
Michi charged again but this time found it much harder to land a blow. Both fighters went back and forth trying to ko the other in one blow. Koto had one disadvantage against Michi however. Michi didn't care if he harmed any innocent bystanders. Koto did. As a result every time Koto had an opportunity to strike with a ki blast he had to double check that he wouldn't accidentally hit anyone should Michi be able to out maneuver his attack and he couldn't use his most powerful ones either since it would kill everyone in the stadium.
"You're pathetic! And weak! Even in the middle of a battle to the death you worry more about those around you than you do yourself! Try this you fool!"
With those words Michi aimed a giant beam of energy at the stadium. Koto rushed as fast as he could to get to the ground to block it. He made it to the ground in time to keep the attack from exploding but he was struggling to hold it back. He started yelling.
"Get everyone out of here! Don't just sit there! If this detonates this whole area will be reduced to dust!"
The people panicked but rushed out of the arena and away from the fight zone. Some went to their cars and others just ran on foot knowing that the ensuing traffic jam could get them killed. Luckily his mom was one of the smart ones and just hoofed it out of there. Once he saw that everyone was out of the stadium he prepared to fight back to his fullest.
"Do-ra-gon beam!" he shouted as he charged and released his ultimate attack to compete with Michi's beam.
The beams struggled pushing against each other attempting to gain a foothold on the other. Just as Koto's was about to overpower Michi's, Michi dodged out of the way as the two beams shot off and exploded in the air.
"Damn you! That could have actually hurt! No more games! I'll show you my next form now!"
"Another transformation??" Koto replied.
Michi laughed evilly.
"Yes and I have one more after this. Both multiplying my strength even further you trash! Behold and tremble in fear!"
Within a few moments Michi had transformed again. This time he was more hunched over but just as large. The horns were replaced by an elongated head making Michi look even more like a monster. Without wasting any time Michi pummeled Koto into the ground. When Michi finally relented Koto had been ground into the stone fighting stage of the arena and laid unconscious. The referee long having abandoned post wasn't there to give Koto the mercy of a ten count. It didn't seem like he would get up however. Michi floated higher and pointed a hand to the sky.
"Time to finish this!"
Michi threw the ball straight at Koto. Koto managed to gain his footing just in time to brace himself and attempt to prevent the ball from destroying the planet.
"I can't let....you.....win!!!!"
Koto reignited his aura and pushed with all of his might. He didn't seem to be making any progress.
"I'm....not...strong enough to deflect it! This isn't good!"
"Now just be a good monkey and die with the planet!"

Gritting his teeth, Koto dug in and braced himself to hold the attack off as long as possible.
"I can't let you!"
Pushing with all his might and roaring from the strain he held the giant orb in place.
"Just die already!" Michi replied. "Along with that worthless pile of meat you call a mother! She gets to evaporate into space dust along with the rest of the planet! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
That hit at his mother was enough to cause him to rejuvenate enough to push the ball back a step before shoving it back towards Michi. Michi prepared to swat it away but as he was hidden underneath the orb Koto charged up another Doragon beam and fired. Just as Michi deflected the orb away from him and up into the sky the Doragon beam hit. Exhausted Koto fell to his knees.
"Did that do it?" he questioned in between gasps for air to recover.
Once the smoke cleared he looked up to see Michi still not only in one piece but in his final form. Koto knew he was in trouble now. Michi charged, moving so fast Koto couldn't follow until Michi connected with a punch to the gut and a kick to the face sending Koto flying back into the stands. Not letting him rest Michi picked up Koto with his tail in a strangle hold. Not able to think as the air was being crushed out of him Koto bit down on Michi's tail to be dropped to the ground. Then when Michi was looking straight at Koto Koto assumed an odd pose and closed his eyes. His ki manifested into a blinding bright light that would stun and blind Michi for at least a few moments if not a minute or two. Koto caught his breath and flew off. Chances were that once he recovered Michi would try to find him before attempting to destroy the planet. The monster would want revenge for the cheap trick. Koto flew to a legendary place high in the sky where magical beans were grown that could restore him to one hundred ten percent. That was the one benefit to being a saiyan. The more you got pummeled then healed the stronger you would be for the next round.
"Korin! I need a senzu bean as quickly as you can grab me one. I have a monster that will be chasing me down and he wants to destroy the earth. I'm too exhausted and weak to face him as I am. I need to heal with a senzu."
Koto landed and the cat guardian knocked him on the head before tossing a senzu in his mouth.
"Oww!"
"Shut up and chew idiot!"
Koto did as instructed and within seconds felt better than new.
"Thanks Korin. I owe you one."
"If you want to thank me beat this guy and do it quickly."

"Will do my best," he yelled back as he flew off.
He sensed his mother and flew to her. He landed and hugged her.
"That ass hole made me lose my wedding ring! Beat him to a pulp for me Koto. I'll keep searching here."
Koto nodded with a smirk before flying back to the arena where Michi was just recovering and looking around for any sign of him. He had been busy firing in random directions since he wasn't able to see.
"So you didn't run away like I thought you did stupid monkey. Brave of you. Foolish but brave."
Koto powered up feeling the difference in his power from last round. He was definitely stronger now and he was mad. That wedding ring his mother told him she lost was the last memento of her husband before he died while Koto was young. He knew it meant the world to his mom and it was because of this monster getting out of hand that she had lost it.
"Did you go and kiss mommy goodbye baby monkey?? You know this will be the last day for either of you so you might want to say farewell while you have the chance!"
"Leave my mother out of this Michi!"
Just then a yell could be heard from the crumbled stands. A child had snuck back amidst the confusion to retrieve something that Koto couldn't see. Michi noticed apparently and moved his gaze from Koto to the child and aimed a finger at the little boy. Koto did his best to rush to the boy's defense but Michi fired a condensed beam shooting the boy through the back. All Koto could see was the beam go through him and the boy's body collapsing to the ground, his eyes glazed over. Koto cradled the boy into his arms. This was the first death he had ever witnessed that he would remember for the rest of his life. After closing the boy's eyes and laying him in a position as if he were asleep, Koto turned back to Michi with a glare.
"How dare you! You monster!"
Koto was pissed. His entire body tensed with his righteous fury at the loss of the boy. Clouds rolled in and lightning began to strike all around them. Through gritted teeth Koto mourned the loss of the boy swearing to himself that he would have vengeance.
"I....wont....let...you.....get away......with this!"
Minutes seemed to tick by. Michi was startled by the sudden change in weather and wondered what was happening to his opponent. He could feel the atmosphere changing. With one final roar Koto's aura ignited and turned from white to golden yellow. His eyes changed from brown to teal and his hair was the last to change from brown to blonde. When the transformation finished Koto turned to Michi with a glare.
"Now it's your turn Michi!"
Taking off Koto charged too fast for Michi to react. He punched Michi in the gut then kicked him up through his chin to send him flying upward. Koto teleported above and using two hammer fists struck Michi's back sending the alien menace back to the earth and causing the ring to be destroyed. Not giving the alien any rest, Koto grabbed him by the tail and started spinning, preparing to toss the alien through the building's wall. When he finally released Michi went flying through the wall and kept soaring, not able to stop himself. He turned to look back one more time at the boy's body. It reignited his anger and Koto flew off in the direction he sent Michi. He teleported to where Michi managed to finally right himself and placed a finger to Michi's tail and in one leg before Michi turned to attack.
"Give it up bastard. I've just inserted some of my ki into your body. At any given time I can detonate it no matter how far away you are. It's the least you deserve."
Lightning continued to crash around them as the fight raged on. Recovering Michi attempted to attack Koto but just kept missing and with each attack Koto snapped his fingers, detonating the two ki grenades he had inserted into his opponent's body. Now severely wounded and bleeding out Michi was slowing down.
"Thanks to you I've attained a new level of power. And thanks to you I now know what loss feels like. This new power...it makes my instincts more assertive. That's not good news for you since you pissed me off Michi. It makes me that much more likely to listen to them. Right now I'm not seeing a reason to spare you."
"What the hell are you? You didn't have this kind of power when the fight started!"
"I am the karma your actions have brought you. Just die...."
With that Koto floated towards Michi who turned to fly away. Koto teleported in front of him and punched so hard that his fist literally went through Michi's torso.
"It's time to finish this," Koto added as he withdrew his arm and let Michi fall to the earth below.
Koto charged a condensed ball of ki in his one palm and aimed it at Michi. Once he released it, it was only approximately the size of a soccer ball. As soon as it hit Michi it exploded, shaking the ground of the surrounding area. When the dust settled, there was nothing left of Michi. Glaring at the spot where the alien had laid and the resulting crater from his own attack, Koto flew back to the arena. He gently picked up the boy's body and flew out of the building to the crowd as the weather cleared. His mom ran to him until she saw what he had in his arms.
"I'm looking for this boy's parents!"
Everyone had huddled under a treeline thinking it would be safer there from the lightning. Two people came forward after minutes of no answer from the crowd. As soon as they took the boy from his arms Koto collapsed onto his rump on the ground and turned to normal. He covered his face as the tears began to fall. He mother knelt and hugged him.
"I couldn't save him. If I had this power all along why couldn't I save him??"

3 years later...
Koto sat on a tree stump during one of his rests between training exercises. He had started to day dream about the tournament three years ago. He snapped himself back to reality when he heard his mother calling for him. She had gone into town hours ago to do some shopping. She loved to do so every now and then after Koto had won the tournament prize money. He didn't mind it since she usually brought back food that they couldn't get out here in the mountains. Snapping himself back to the present and rushing to meet her, he took the bags from her arms to carry them for her.
"No problems I take it?" he asked.
Koto always worried about his mother being on her own. She was only human after all.
"None at all. I have big news for you though Koto. While I was in town I enrolled you in a public high school there. You could fly there in minutes so don't look at me like it's impossible."
Up until this point in his life his mother had tutored him at home. She taught him all of the essentials like reading, writing, math, and manners. Manners and etiquette was not his best subject especially when it came to food. As soon as a plate was set in front of him he devoured whatever was on it in moments without any regard to who was around him. His mother had always excused it as him being a normal teenager. But his rabid appetite wasn't the only thing that hinted at him not being a normal teenager. He could move faster than any human could and could overpower opponents that were more than ten times his size. Not to mention he could blow up a planet by pointing a hand at it and that he could fly.
"I'm never gonna fit in ma. Everyone will recognize me from the tournament and I'll have to deal with fans of both gender all day. I wouldn't be able to get any studying done. It would be impossible."
"You're going whether you like it or not Koto! There's no argument to be had. I'm your mother. You will do as I say. I know what is best for you and they can teach you all of the things that I can't. Is it too much to ask for you to have a brain underneath all that muscle??"
As they had been bantering back and forth they had walked inside the house and Koto set the groceries down on the kitchen table so that he could help his mom put them away.
"No mom. That's not too much to ask for but you've taught me all the basics. People are going to persecute me for being so different. Plus what if those parents are mad and want revenge against me for the loss of their kid? It'll be a lot easier for them to find me in a public setting compared to out here in the mountains."
"If they haven't found us yet I doubt that anything you do at that school short of blowing it up with one of your light shows will draw their attention to you. Now....here's your uniform. Here's a backpack filled with supplies you'll need. Make sure that you get plenty of sleep tonight because you take the entrance exam tomorrow."
With a sigh Koto gave up on the argument because he knew that he wouldn't win. It was already done and her mind was made up. Besides, maybe he'd meet a cute girl that he would actually like and understand while he was there?
Tossing that hopeful thought for the moment he helped his mom put everything else away before taking his new things to his bedroom so that he would know where they were tomorrow morning and would be right there for him to get ready more quickly. As soon as they were all situated he kissed his mom on the cheek and resumed his training outside. When the sun began to dip low in the sky he came in and told her he would go to the river nearby to clean up.
"Don't forget the soap I got you," his mother recommended.
He raised his hand to show her that he already had it in his hand.
"Wouldn't want to smell for my first day."
He closed the door behind himself before flying off to the rapids section of the river. Using ki manipulation he could hold himself in place in the water. He cleaned himself up until he was smelling nice. He flew back home and kissed his mom on the cheek again before going to sleep.

The next morning Koto awoke and got dressed in his school uniform before making his way to the kitchen where he sat down at the table to await his breakfast that his mom always made him. He thanked her before digging in.
As soon as he was finished he took his plate to the sink to rinse it off for her before kissing her on the cheek and grabbing his backpack to head to school.
Once he was outside and far enough away from the house he turned back to wave to her before taking off to fly to the city.
He landed on the outskirts of town and hit the ground running. He didn't want to be late. He stopped for a few moments right outside the school gate to let his breathing return to normal. That and to ease his nerves. Living out in the mountains for so long he didn't know how people might react at seeing him. Taking a deep breath he stepped around the perimeter wall to enter the grounds, greeting the teacher on gate duty. Keeping his eyes down he listened to see if anyone said anything about him but they all seemed too involved in their existing conversations to even notice him.
"Thank God for little miracles," he thought to himself before he sat on the steps at the front entrance of the school.
He sat trying to look inconspicuous as he waited for the bell to ring. He couldn't wait for the day to start. In all honesty he wasn't looking forward to the classes. Even when his mom tutored him at home he had trouble focusing on the lessons when it was a nice day out. All he could think about was training and getting stronger. Every time his thoughts went in that direction he would unfortunately reminisce about the fight at the tournament that still haunted him to this day. If another threat or greater like that alien came along he would be the planet's only line of defense to stop it. Luckily he had been training almost every day since to master his transformation as well as the new powers it granted him.
When the bell rang he walked in to the office and introduced himself. The secretary had another student show him to his locker and where his homeroom would be. He practiced the combination until he figured out the lock and then went into the classroom and picked a seat towards the rear of the room. He sighed as he checked through his bag to ensure he hadn't forgotten anything as his classmates made their way in and started picking out seats.
The days went by relatively normal. Everyone was forming cliques and keeping to their existing friend groups. Noone bothered him as if he didn't exist. Koto didn't mind seeing as one of his major fears was someone recognizing him from three years ago and wanting to attack him for not being able to save the little boy. In all honesty there were still nights when Koto had his pity parties and couldn't get the boy out of his head. Guilt and regret tore through him more than a finely honed and heated blade through butter.
He sighed as lunch for their class was announced. He gathered his things and began making his way to the cafeteria. While waiting in line with his empty lunch tray a large teen bumped into him like he was going to cut line. Koto quickly yanked him by the pantline out of the line one-handed to resume his place in the queue. Of course the guy wouldn't let that stand. Just from eyeballing him Koto could tell that the boy was one of those kids that were used to getting their way no matter what they had to do to achieve that result. Koto wouldn't be bullied however. The bully winded up and cracked the tray in half on Koto's head. Koto didn't even flinch as he went about his business. Unfortunately from the loud noise everyone was now looking at him. He sighed as he got his food and then found a seat at a table by himself.
He began eating before he was bumped again. It was the same kid. Koto stopped eating and turned around to stand up to the wanna-be bully.
"Next time you touch me I'm gonna throw you through a window. Especially if its while I'm trying to enjoy food."
The larger boy smirked down at him before setting his tray down and opening his arms wide as if if daring Koto to try him. Koto wasn't an idiot however. He knew that if he threw the first punch the kid could get out of trouble by saying that Koto was being the bully. At least if the idiot swung first Koto could claim self-defense. When Koto didn't react the kid took a swing which Koto dodged as if the teen were standing still. He continued to dodge until teachers intervened and escorted the bully to the principal's office.
Koto sat back down at his table after grabbing the bully's lunch tray. Double the lunch for him. The benefits of not backing down without throwing a punch.
"I wonder if this is what they meant when they made up that phrase "Discretion is the better part of valor"?" he mumbled with a chuckle as he ate his food and the second tray as well.
When he finished he returned his tray and made his way to his next class. He sat down in the classroom and began reading through his textbooks again so that he could keep ahead and not look like an idiot if the teacher asked him to answer any questions. He was especially insecure about his knowledge of what they might teach him since he didn't know what modern schools taught. His mom did her best to tutor him in everything she felt he would need to know but even she was no match for advanced math or science.
When everyone else started walking in they finally started noticing him but didn't rush over to greet him or give him any special kind of attention. In fact if he had to guess it looked like they were disappointed in him. Chances were they probably wanted him to slug the bully as much as he himself wanted to hit him.
"Guess I'm not the only one who thinks he's an idiot," he mumbled to himself before the teacher walked in and began to take roll call.

The rest of the day went pretty uneventfully. Koto made it through all of his classes awake.
"Give me time. It's only the first day," he thought as he himself wondered about falling asleep in class.
When the day finally ended it was still nice and sunny out. He smiled hoping that he could get his homework finished quickly so that he might get in a little more training before having to go to bed. He would get to repeat the entire process tomorrow after all. Stopping to think about all of the homework he had to do, he paused on the sidewalk and was only snapped back to reality by someone bumping into him. He turned to see a girl from one of his classes on her posterior on the sidewalk.
"I'm sorry. I spaced out for a sec there. You okay?" he questioned her.
"I'll be fine," she replied shortly, attempting to clean up her things that spilled from the sudden collision.
He knelt down and helped her pick up her things.
"My apologies again miss. Have a nice night. See you tomorrow. Hopefully it's a little less rough if we bump into each other tomorrow."
He then turned to walk away from her and begin heading home. He wanted to get his homework over with as quickly as possible. As soon as he was back to the city limits he took off and flew the rest of the way home. He landed outside the front door and walked in after knocking.
"Mom? It's me!" he called as he stepped inside, closing the door behind himself.
His mother came out to greet him excitedly.
"My boy is finally home from his first day of school! How did it go? Any prospects for girlfriends yet?"
"Not much really interesting happened today ma. I do have a decent amount of reading material to go over. I'm gonna go to my bed and get that done. Call me when dinner is ready?"
"Do you even have to ask? I haven't missed a meal in all these years. I'm not going to start now. Do your best sweety."
Koto went to his bed and read the syllabus for each class to learn what they were going to learn this year in school. Luckily he had already read ahead of everyone and had a better memory than most. He answered the questions at the end of the chapter, writing each down in one of his notebooks so he could turn them in to the teachers tomorrow.
By the time he finished his mother was calling him for dinner. He washed his hands and face with a pitcher of water and a large basin bowl on his dresser before walking downstairs to the eat-in kitchen table his adoptive father had made before he died. He sat down in his normal chair after helping his mom arrange everything onto the table.
"It all looks delicious mom. Thanks."
After a quick blessing he dug in and ate his fill. Upon finishing he excused himself from the table and put his dishes and silverware in the sink to be washed at a later time. For now he was gonna change out of his uniform and get some exercise in before bathing in the river again.
He practiced his form against invisible opponents for a few hours before the sun started getting lower in the sky.
He walked inside sweating before running to his room, grabbing his soap and a towel, and running back out the door. He flew off to the river again and repeated the process he followed last night until he was satisfactorily clean and smelling good. He toweled himself off in the nude out in the middle of the wilderness before putting on a pair of pajama pants to fly home in. Upon stepping inside the house he kissed his mom goodnight and went to bed.

The next morning Koto awoke and got dressed. He made his way groggily to the table and began to eat the breakfast his mother had already prepped for him. It was delicious as usual. It was amazing how good she could cook with the limited resources and technology in the house and being out in the middle of the forest in the valley between mountains.
"Thanks ma. See ya later," he announced as he stood from the table after finishing his meal.
"Have a good day Koto," his mother replied with a smile before he walked out the door with his backpack.
He flew to the edge of town again and landed out of sight before beginning to make the rest of his way on foot. He made it to the front entrance in a matter of a couple minutes. He had plenty of time so there was no need to rush. He sat down on the steps in front of the school and kept to himself mostly. After yesterday he didn't want any more run ins with the more violent kids. He wasn't scared of them in the least but he didn't want to get expelled or in trouble either. If his mom ever found out she'd kill him. But on second thought if she was going to execute him she'd probably give him an extra special meal for his last supper.
He smirked as a picture of the Last Supper appeared in his head with only him sitting at the table as his mom brought food onto it. He really was obsessed with food. He could never get enough. It was all just so delicious. If one ever witnessed his voracious appetite they would swear his mother starved him every day. He chuckled at the thought until the bell rang from everyone to make their way to their home rooms. He grabbed all of his books and made his way to class. He sat down in his assigned chair and stared out the window while waiting for the teacher to show up.
As soon as the teacher arrived they took roll call before beginning their day. The teacher made announcements to any students that would be in classes with him later before the bell rang for the students to make their way to their first classes of the day. Throughout the day Koto had noticed that the bully kept glaring at him whenever they were in the same room or hallway. At least he kept his distance. Hopefully he had learned his lesson from last time. Not only did the bully get into trouble for it he missed out on a lunch as well. Koto didn't let the evil glare bother him though. Every time he noticed it he would turn in the bully's direction and smirk while giving him a little wave to antagonize him.
When lunch time finally rolled around Koto made his way through the line to get his food and sat down at a table by himself. He didn't have any friends yet so he didn't want to impose his way into any private conversations. He sighed before beginning to dig in to his lunch tray. The food wasn't as good as his mother's but it still tasted good enough that he was done within only a few short minutes.
