Xerxes carried Rector to the infirmary. He laid the unconscious new kid down gently on one of the beds and announced the issue to the nurse.
"Thank you Xerxes. We can take it from here. You should return to class before you miss out on your chance at a sparring match."
Xerxes nodded and walked back to class.
"Did he wake up yet?" Terra questioned him upon arrival.
Xerxes shook his head from side-to-side.
Terra looked disappointed but Xerxes patted her on the head with a smile.
"He'll wake up soon. You saw how well he did against Ire. He's tough for a rank D demon."
Terra nodded in approval.
"You're right Xerxes. He'll be fine," she commented.
A few hours later, Rector woke to see the nurse putting a cold compress on his forehead.
"Where am I? Is this Demon World?" he questioned groggily.
The nurse smiled before responding. "No. You're still at school."
Rector slowly sat himself up on the side of the bed.
"You shoudln't be getting up just yet," the nurse warned.
Rector gave a fanged smirk at her as he stood.
"I'll be fine. How do I get to my dorm room from here?" he inquired.
"I'll have Xerxes escort you. You shoudn't go alone in your condition."
The nurse made her way to the phone on her desk and called a number. She spoke to whoever answered for a moment before hanging up and then looked toward Rector.
"He's on his way. Sit still until he arrives," she commanded.
Rector sighed and did as he was told. He didn't want to get into trouble on his first day.
When Xerxes finally arrived, Rector smirked and stood.
"Let's get outta here Xerxes. I'm bored outta my mind," Rector stated.
Xerxes returned his expression before speaking.
"Whatever you say Rector. We'll need to be careful on the way. Ire feels like youhumiliated her in front of the entire class."
Rector chuckled before responding, "I fear no demon or demonesss."
"You're nuts, you know that? You have a pissy demoness that is one of the most powerful people in the school after you for blood adn you brush it off like it was nothing. I know guys that would wet themselves at the thought of Ire!" Xerxes stated.
Rector chuckled nervously. He couldn't tell Xerxes that the reason he wasn't scared was because he had fought off much more powerful foes in defense of his crown over the centuries.
"Uhhh...she only got one good hit on me and I recover in a day. If that's her best then there's no reason for me to worry. Everyone needs to remember that I may be rank D wihtout the limiters but that's only when I'm in human form. I never went demon against her and I never will go demon so long as I'm in mortal world."
Xerxes sighed before responding as they left the Infirmary.
"You really are mental. Even if you do go demon your power couldn't jump that much."
Rector smirked at Xerxes' answer.
"I'm so glad to hear you ahve such faith in my abilities Xerxes. It's a real confidence booster."
"I'll give you credit for doing so well against her but the fact still is that you lost. You did last the longest I've seen in awhile."
Rector sighed as he listened to Xerxes and arrived back at the dorm. He turned to Xerxes with a smirk.
"Trust me buddy, you people haven't see anything yet."
With that Rector entered his room and went to sleep, leaving Xerxes in awe at Rector's comments.
The next morning Rector awoke and took a shower before getting dressed in his old clothes.
"People might start avoiding me if they realize I only have on set of clothes. I hope I get some uniforms or something soon," he commented before picking up his backpack and heading out to class.
He went through the normal day classes until lunch. When he sat down across from Xerxes, he noticed the penetrating stares of his classmates. They were whispering to each other as they ogled him. Rector turned to Xerxes.
"What's their problem? Don't tell me all this attention is from that one sparring match? I lost as you said so what's the big deal?"
Xerxes whispered to him, "I told you last night, Ire is one of the toughest people in this school and you stood almost on equal ground with her for a good few minutes. Most new kids don't last more than a few seconds against her."
Rector sighed at Xerxes' reply. He didn't want to stand out. The last thing he needed was for his identity to be revealed. He ate silently until he cleared his tray. Then he spoke to Xerxes.
"I can't believe noone has lasted against her. All she does is charge in a fit of rage. Her attacks were all predictable and straight forward."
"For being so predictable and straight forward they seemed to take care of you rather quickly," a voice sounded behind him.
Rector turned to see Ire standing behind him.
"Hi there Ire. I was just talking to Xerxes about our sparring match. I was going to tell him about the advice I gave you."
"I don't need your help to fight. Incase you forgot I'm the one who sent you to the Infirmary."
"I faked being unconscious. I never wanted to fight, remember?"
She looked even more perturbed at his comment before storming off.
Rector stood and waved after her and shouted "Have a nice day Ire!"
The demoness glared and huffed before leaving the cafeteria. She would show him. Next time she wouldn't hold back against him due to an apparent gap in power levels. She would grind him into the school's foundation.
"He will not receive any mercy from me ever again," she mumbled. "There will be no question or doubt as to which is the best fighter when we meet next."
With that she made her way to her next classroom. Day classes were not yet finished. She found trouble attempting to concentrate on school lessons as the dday progressed, thinking only of the sweet revenge awaiting her.
