Aime' made it back to the kingdom by nightfall but as he walked through town, he noticed a faint glow that seemed to follow him closely.
When people began to run inside their homes he reached a hand as if to say wait but he realized why they were frightened. The skin of his forearms was cracked and the cracks glowed as flowing magma.
He wore a sad expression the rest of the way to the castle. This was the king's fault but he didn't dare take revenge yet.
Once inside the castle, he hesitated in the doorway. He looked himself over again.
"What will Brynn do when she sees me like this? Worse yet will her father attempt to execute me for my appearance?"
After thinking to himself for a few minutes, Aime' clenched his fists and made his way to the throne room. The announcer attempted to block his way but Aime' simply pushed him out of the way and approached the king.
"Who let this demon into the castle??" the king demanded.
Aime' bowed before the king.
"I am Aime' your highness, returned from the demon village. You have no allies there sir so I took care of them. Unfortunately you failed to mention the curse of the village. Never the less, I have managed to return," Aime' announced.
As Aime' spoke, Brynn had approached from behind.
"Aime'? Is it really you?" she questioned.
The armor clad warrior turned with a fanged smile towards Brynn.
"Hello m'lady. It is good to see you again Brynn," he replied.
As soon as he spoke, Brynn rushed forward with teary eyes and embraced him.
"I thought...I thought I would never see you again!"
The king saw this display of affection and instantly began to yell at Aime' and Brynn in elvish. Just as Brynn was going to shout an elven retort, Aime' signalled her to stop.
In elven he began to speak to the royal elf. Not a jaw in the room was closed. All dropped when they heard elf tongue come from Aime's mouth.
"No need to yell your majesty. Besides what would the other nobles think if they heard your dialogue? I beg your leave for both of us."
With that, Aime' scooped Brynn into his arms and carried her away to her chambers, leaving her father speechless. Once the door was shut he set her down gently onto the stone floor.
"How long have you been able to speak elf Aime'?" Brynn questioned him with eyes still agape.
"Since before we met my fair maiden," he replied and bowed to her at the waist. "I hope you are not upset over this revelation?"
Brynn snapped herself out of her trance. She was remembering all of the times she began talking elven in front of Aime' and explaining herself, pitying him for not understanding what she had said.
"No...not at all Aime'," she replied.
She stared at him for a minute before speaking again.
"I was worried that by the time you came back Aime' that you would have transformed completely. I am glad to see such few changes," she commented before approaching him. "I gave great thought towards your last words to me before you left Aime'. I've come to a realization."
She leaned forward and kisse dhim on the lips.
"I have strong feelings for you as well Aime'," she stated with a smile.
"You mean my altered appearance does not frighten or repulse you?" he questioned.
She nodded her head from side-to-side.
"Not at all. As a matter of fact it entices me more than before."
She blushed when she realized what she had said. Aime' blushed as well.
"That is certainly a relief and it is a happy day then. I love you Brynn," he stated as he embraced her.
She returned his embrace and smiled, looking into his eyes.
"I love you as well Aime'. I don't think I could love anyone as much as you," she said.
They kissed once again before Aime' decided to speak.
"Now we have to decide whether you want Jaecyn on the invite list to the union ceremony."
He smirked down at her and she chuckled.
"You're horrible Aime'," she replied.
At that moment, Aim'e turend his head away and yawned.
"I apologize Brynn. I must still be tired from my journey. I want to stay awake and spend more time with you though."
She smiled attractively towards him and laid down on her bed.
"Then let us share my bed and get some rest together," she suggested.
He had already begun taking off his armor and boots.
"Sounds like a fine idea," he replied with a smirk.
He finished and crawled into the bed next to her. He placed his arm around her as they cuddled close together in the bed.
"Sweet dreams my lovely Brynn. As long as you know I love you, nothing bad can happen." he mumbled as they closed their eyes.
"I couldn't love you more Aime'. Pleasant dreams. If you dream of a woman, it better be me."
She smiled and relaxed into slumber. Aime' held back a chuckle, not wanting to wake her. Soon enough he too slipped into sweet slumber.
When he awoke next to her, he didn't move from his spot. He simply smiled contently as he admired the sleeping figure of Brynn next to him.
"Poor girl must be exhausted. Was so worried for me that she couldn't sleep while I was away," he thought to himself.
As he took in her features so close to him, he couldn't resist. He leaned over her side and kissed her gently on the cheek. Once he did so, she turned to face him in the bed and her eyes blinked open. She smiled back at him.
"Good morning Aime'. Sleep well?" she inquired.
"How could I not when I am sleeping next to the fairest lady in the world?" he replied with a smile.
She kissed him on the lips and smiled at him.
"You are so sweet Aime'. I don't know where I would be without you here with me."
"I only speak the truth. You are everything any man could ever dream of Brynn. Not only are you flawless in beauty but you have the wisest female mind I have ever seen."
"Perhaps we should get out of bed before someone walks in and reports to my father. As much as I would like to stay here with you forever," she stated.
"Couldn't put it any better myself love. Are you reading my mind?"
They kissed once more before getting out of bed and dressed to enjoy some breakfast together. Both were hoping there would be no interruptions this time dealing with missions or her father.
