"Pitiful..."
Ruby red lips turned down in a frown as bright eyes peered out of the window. Sora pushed off of her elbows and turned away from her window. She was tired of watching the humans that made up her kingdom. No one knew her secret and she planned to keep it that way.
"No one can get close..." She whispered as she sat on her bed. She'd said this same line every night since the day she had been turned into a monster several years ago by someone she loved. So she became cruel and tortured anyone who dared tried being nice to her.
She was soon known as Princess Sora, the torturess. She laid down, murmuring her beloved line over and over again. "No one... can get close to a monster..."

He smiled as he walked downstairs. The kids were still asleep all over. He carefully tiptoed between each of them. He looked around at the broken down home.
"I really need to get some money to fix this place up." he whispered. "It's the least I can do for these guys."
He smiled sadly as he looked over the orphans he had taken in. He was used to living on handouts from all of the townspeople who thought of him as a hero/saint for taking in all the unwanted children and taking care of them.
He grabbed a bunch of eggs out of the fridge and started cooking. As he cooked, the children slowly woke to the smell of the hot breakfast.
"They're almost done guys. Come on and wake everyone up." he stated to the awaken children with a smile.

"Sora, dear... you should get out in the sun some... You're becoming so pale." Her mother mentioned early the next morning at the breakfast table. Sora gritted her teeth, trying to keep her calm. She hated snapping at her parents... but she had to. They couldn't get close.
"Stop trying to make me do stuff I don't want to do!" She screamed, standing up quickly and knocking her chair over. Her eyes flashed a dangerous red and she darted off to her room. Even if she got out in the sunlight, she wouldn't tan. She was a vampire...

The kids that had already woken up, made their way through the house, waking up all the others. Soon, his table was overfilled with smiling children waiting for their plates to be filled. He smiled when he turned with the pan in his hand towards the mass of youth in front of him.
"Breakfast's ready everyone." he spoke. "One at a time, you will all get your share."
One by one he filled each of their plates. In total there were a dozen children he had to keep fed and clothed. He usually tore his shirts in half and sewed them mini shirts. This was evidenced by the fact that the few shirts he had in his closet were all torn half way down his body. He wasn't any tailor but at least the clothes could cover the children.
"Eat up guys." he spoke and smiled as he watched them all dig in.
They looked up after taking a few bites with egg spotted faces. "Thank you poppa Peri!"
He chuckled. "No problem guys. Eat up and then you can go and play. Just don't wander off too far."

Sora growled in annoyance at the man standing in the doorway to her room. "Stop following me! I hate it!" She yelled, her eyes flashing that dangerous red again. The man retreated and ran away, screaming his head off yelling something about the princess being demonic.
"That's exactly it." She murmured darkly. She hopped up onto her window and placed her legs out, dangling them over the side of the castle. She was people watching again... it was the only thing that could be deemed interesting at some points. Other times, she read or played violin.

The children finished their meals. Peri helped them clean up their dishes. He then made them clean their faces with some water he had retrieved from one of the neighbor's wells.
"Alright, now y'all can go outside and play." he announced to them all.
He followed after them out the door and locked the door on his way out. He smiled as he watched them run off.
"Kids" he sighed with a smile.
Everything they did seemed to bring a smile to his face. He just hoped they would be able to stay out of trouble today.

Several guards were patrolling the entire village today. It was a routine once-a-week thing. The princess watched from her window, her eyes much more powerful than an average human. Suddenly a little boy bumped into one of the patrolmen, prompting him to get rude.
"Hey! Brat, watch where you're going. You ought to be thrown in the dungeon for bumping into me!" The man had a wicked smirk. He knew the princess would love to torture the kid for being dimwitted.

As Peri was walking around he saw a large crowd. Immediately he had a bad feeling.
"Kids?? Where are you??" he shouted and ran towards the crowd.
He got towards the front of the crowd he watched.
"Say something you little bratt! You should at least try to calm me down by apologizing!" the guard shouted at the kid and picked him up by the worn shirt the boy was wearing.
The child blew a raspberry at the guard. Peri slapped his palm to his face out of annoyance.
Why you.....!" the guard shouted and started to swing at the child.
The child flinched, but when the strike that he was sure was coming didn't connect, he opened his eyes to see Poppa Peri standing in front of the guard, blocking the armored fist.
"Poppa Peri!" the child shouted.
Peri speechlessly tugged the child from the grip of the guard. He knelt in front of the child with a smile.
"Go find your brothers and sisters and wait back at the house." he spoke calmly to the child.
The child did as he was told and ran off through the crowd.

The guard growled and got into a fighting stance. "Turn around and face me you idiot!" He shouted. The crowd hushed, waiting for the fight to begin.
Princess Sora blinked lazily at the scene and then went back into her bedroom to play her violin.

"It's one thing to attempt to teach a child manners. It's a completely different thing to abuse one for such stupid reasons." he stated towards the guard.
Of course this only made the guard more furious and more guards soon showed to check to see what was causing such a fuss on their patrol areas. When they saw their ally in a fighting stance against a homeless looking man, the rushed in to join. Peri sighed and raised a palm towards the guards.
They laughed as they charged.
"You plan on taking us on bare handed you fool!" the yelled as the rushed at him.
The people stared in awe at the spectacle that appeared before their eyes as Peri brough his palm to his side. Next to him formed a lion as tall as he was. The village people had seen Peri's skills before. They knew they were safe from the animals. It still amazed them to see his technique though.
The guards stopped in their tracks.
"A l,l,l, Lion!" they shouted.
The beast at Peri's side let loose a bellowing roar. Peri flinched and leaned away from the animal. When the beast finished the guards were shaking in their armor but were too frightened to run away. Peri covered an ear with his hand.
"Next time warn me when you're gonna roar like that Leo." he spoke to the beast made of pure light next to him.

The guards were suddenly very serious. "How dare you use a monster against the royal guard!" One shouted.
"Wait until the king and queen hear of this!" They quickly retreated to tell of their encounter with the homeless-looking man. The villagers all crowded around Peri and cheered him on happily. Soon the huge crowd disbanded and everyone went about their business, thinking that the guards were just talking again...
But they weren't.

Peri smiled and walked back, still with the lion at his side. When the children saw him approach they ran to him and the lion named Leo. The all hugged the two of them. Peri smiled.
"You gotta be more careful guys. The guards and royals aren't nice people. You need to avoid them at all costs." he advised. He pointed to the oldest child.
"Come here David." he spoke, curling a finger to signal what he just said.
The child approached and Peri patted his head.
"It's more than likely that Papa Peri is going to get in trouble with the people from the castle. Miss Anna down the road will help take care of you but you need to be able to protect yourselves for while I'm gone. Leo here will stay with you David. It will be your responsibility to protect everyone, got me?"
Peri knelt and smiled at the young boy. He ruffled the boys hair and called Leo to his side. Peri stuck out his palm like he did towards the guards and the lion formed into a sphere of light in his hand. After a few more moments, it shrunk into a small jewel shape and there was a fine chain wrapped around it. Peri placed the necklace around the boy's neck.
"Leo is yours. He will come out and protect you whenever you need his help from now on. You have to be responsible for him now." Peri spoke. "Now let's all get inside before the guards come back with more friends.

"Capture that brat!" The guard told the others after getting the permission from the king and queen. They were going to grab the male that had 'attacked' the royal guards in the city and bring him in.
Sora was in charge of punishment.

It was night time. The children had just been bathed and readied for bed. They all had gone to sleep already and now it was Peri's turn. He bathed himself and got dressed. As soon as he came downstairs to check on the kids, he heard a knock on the door. He wanted the knocking to stop before the children woke up so he tiptoed his way to the door and opened it.
"It's night time. Who is it? We are indoors. Noone was violating curfew." he whispered.
Then when the door was opened all the way he noticed who it was that was standing outside. It was the three guards from earlier today and they had brought friends.
"If you've come for revenge then fine. But leave the kids out of it." he demanded, stepping out and closing the door.

"Trust me, all we want is you." One smirked. "The tax collectors will come take care of them!"
Two guards stood on either side of Peri while others were around them, keeping him in a semi circle so he couldn't escape. "You should know... Sora is in charge of your punishment."
And soon... they arrived at the castle.

Peri sighed.
"Sounds fine." he replied. "Thank you."
Peri studied his surroundings as they made their way through the castle. He knew that if the princess did anything too drastic to him, he would explode like the sun. It made him a little nervous. He was more concerned for her than himself.

As they all walked in, Sora was in the throne room by herself. She was expecting the guards with the offender, but was passing the time by playing her violin. The hauntingly beautiful melody filled the throne room.
Her violin made a harsh screech as she halted in her playing to lazily look at the guards. "Hmph... so this is him?" She questioned, yawning in boredom.

Peri smirked and bowed.
"Hello your highness. A pleasure I am sure." he stated. "May I say that was a beautiful melody you were playing."
He stood again and smiled. This was the first time he had met the princess.

Her lips turned down in a frown. "Stop trying to flatter me." She droned, standing from her sitting position. "It won't work... and I hate kiss asses." She smirked defiantly.
"Now... my guards tell me that you summoned a large lion made of some kind of light... I demand you show me."

"Then you wont care if I dispense with formalities? To be honest I can't summon this lion your guards told you of." he blinked up at her.
"She certainly is odd for royalty." he thought to himself.

She crossed her arms and shook her head. She could care less. It was only a title to her.
"And why not?" She questioned, anger seeping into her voice.

"For two reasons. First my powers are not for entertainment or display. Second, I gave that pet of mine away after that encounter with your armored goons." he stated.
He stood tall, not to intimidate but to show that he himself was not intimidated.

The vampire frowned more, if that was even possible, and crept closer to the other. She reached up to calmly stroke his cheek as if she was coddling him. Suddenly she drew her hand back and slapped him hard enough to send him to his knees. A large scratch appeared across his face where her fingernails raked his skin.
"Reni, Ace..." She spoke calmly to the two guards in back. "Take this man and the three guards to the dungeons. I don't have time to waste with idiots like these."
The three original guard who had first threatened Peri were dragged off along with Peri to the dungeons. "They can die of starvation for all I care." Sora yawned.

Peri smirked as the four of them were dragged away towards the dungeon cells.
"See you soon your highness. Thank you for the wonderful introduction." he stated, placing emphasis on the words highness and wonderful.

She only laughed as if he'd said a very funny joke. "Yes... perhaps, commoner." She raised an eyebrow.
"If you survive the beatings they give you." She looked him up and down as he was dragged away. She knew he wouldn't survive. He looked weak.
